COVID - Really, what is important in our lives?

Situation connected to COVID is in Europe under control, restrictions are released and you can travel (almost unlimited) and do whatever you want like before. It is very interesting how people see risk if situation affects directly them and when this happening somewhere far. In Brazil, USA and Russia is a situation connected to COVID critical, but here in Middle of Europe nobody really cares. Although we live in the global world, we still live our insignificant lives in our quarters. It is interesting how people feel when something terrible happen in theirs country or border country and how they behave when it happened somewhere across the ocean. Situation connected to fear from illness is comparable between situation in China a few months ago and current situation in USA from the perspective of Europe.

This was just something to think about. I would like to discuss in today’s comment something else. I am not a person who would love mass activities as music festivals or sport tournament, but I love all the stuff prosperity provide to us. Fast internet, good restaurants, cinemas and also Hockey Championship (cancelled unfortunately this year). I used COVID crisis as a sociological lab. It was very interesting to see what society really needs and what just want and desire for. Most important is that you can see how many people doing business which is not needed, just wanted. At the moment there is any problem or crisis, such type of business is going to collapse first.

This has a high impact on economy. If economy is built on services, traveling and pleasure especially country can be in big trouble in such a situation as COVID crisis. Time of pure capitalism is gone a year ago and we are living in socialist capitalism so almost every government apply financial help to this type of business and countries increase theirs deficit. As I am working for a manufacturer of commodity which is required in every moment of human existence, maybe my vision is affected by this but I would like to ask one question.

Wouldn’t be better to invest this money to infrastructure, create more parking places, modernize roads, build more flats, invest money to teachers or improve education than supports professional sport clubs, amusement parks, music festivals and whatever else. If you are doing this business, prepare yourselves for such a situation or to do something else. It is very tough, but this is true. We should apply risk management to our career and development and understand how we are protected to market. I fully understand that free market is extremely important, I just want to point out that some investments really looks like a waste of government budget.

Pleasure is pleasure, and life is life. This is something governments and everybody should realize. We should think about what society needs and what is expendable. Protect our future as prosperity is not forever and we can find late that our economy is built only on expendable services.
